Strengthening Professional Ethics and Conduct and Taking the Road of Academic Integrity

On December 20, 2022, Huairou Laboratory invited Prof. Cui Xiang of North China Electric Power University, a dual-employed expert at Smart Energy Research Institute to give training to doctoral supervisors on academic ethics and codes of conduct.

The training is divided into two major themes. The first theme "New Starting Point, New Actions, and New Tasks" mainly focuses on three aspects: responsibilities of doctoral supervisors, their own development, and how to select doctoral students. The second theme "For Academic Road, To Be an Honest Person First" mainly focuses on cases of academic misconducts. Through different cases, Prof. Cui explained the consequences of academic misconducts and frauds and how to avoid such behaviors among doctoral students.

During the training, Prof. Cui shared his personal experience in doctoral students' education. The atmosphere of the training was very enthusiastic. The training strengthened supervisors' understanding of academic ethics and codes of conduct. By studying warning cases of academic misconducts, the supervisors expressed that they would always uphold the pragmatic spirit of ethics first and integrity oriented, establish red line awareness, and guard the bottom line of scientific research integrity.
