The Signing Ceremony for Deepening the Strategic Cooperation Between Huairou Laboratory and China Three Gorges Corporation & the Unveiling Ceremony for the Renewable Energy Research Center Co-constructed by the Two Parties Being Held in Beijing

On July 30, the Signing Ceremony for Deepening the Strategic Cooperation Between Huairou Laboratory and China Three Gorges Corporation & the Unveiling Ceremony for the Renewable Energy Research Center Co-constructed by the Two Parties were held in the start-up area of Huairou Laboratory. Those present at the ceremony included Yu Yingjie, member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Mayor of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, Lei Mingshan, Chairman and Party Secretary of the China Three Gorges Corporation, Tang Guangfu, Director of Huairou Laboratory and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and relevant leaders from the Laboratory Division of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, and Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park Management Committee.

As an important part of the national strategic science and technology force, Huairou Laboratory brings together various innovative resources by giving full play to the new system for mobilizing the resources nationwide, and engages in strategic, forward-looking and basic scientific and technological innovations in the energy field. China Three Gorges Corporation, which was among the first batch of world-class demonstration enterprises identified by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, has developed into the world's largest hydropower enterprise and China's leading clean energy group.

At the ceremony, relevant leaders of the two parties signed the cooperation agreement and announced the establishment of the "Renewable Energy Research Center of Huairou Laboratory" and the "Renewable Energy Research Institute of China Three Gorges Corporation". Deputy Mayor of Beijing Yu Yingjie and Chairman of China Three Gorges Corporation Lei Mingshan performed the unveiling ceremony of the two institutions and delivered speeches.

Yu Yingjie said that the con-construction of research institutions by Huairou Laboratory and China Three Gorges Corporation was beneficial to achieving industry-university-research collaboration and strengthening synergy to tackle scientific and technological problems in the renewable energy sector. The co-construction served as an exploration to new paths and new models of jointly undertaking missions and seeking joint development to build strategic scientific and technological strength. He hoped that in the future, the co-constructed institutions would aim at strategic goals and accelerate the generation of significant achievements; they would adhere to the talent-first concept and build an excellent core talent team; by strengthening systematic concepts, the institutions would deploy innovation chain around the industrial chain and accelerate the transfer of achievements.

Chairman Lei Mingshan said that the cooperation and co-construction between China Three Gorges Corporation and Huairou Laboratory were of great significance for optimizing the allocation of innovation resources and improving the overall effectiveness of the national innovation system. The cooperation could fully tap the institutional and talent advantages of Huairou Laboratory as well as the industrial, integrated innovation and application scenario advantages of China Three Gorges Corporation. China Three Gorges Corporation will solidly promote the implementation of the cooperation agreement, accelerate the establishment of the innovation platform, and make every effort to tackle scientific and technological problems. It will further mobilize the enthusiasm, initiatives and creativities of researchers, making greater contributions to the construction of a new energy system at a faster pace.

The Renewable Energy Research Center is the second research center jointly established by Huairou Laboratory and a central enterprise after the Next Generation Power System Research Center, so it has great significance to the Laboratory in deepening the collaborative innovation mechanism and achieving high-quality development. This ceremony marks that the co-constructed institutions have formally entered the establishment stage. The two parties will closely focus on the "Four Facings" and adhere to the goal of producing results and cultivating talents. They will bring together advantageous scientific research forces, improve resource input efficiency and promote the formation of an innovation pattern featuring overall layout, diversified investment and systematic implementation. The two sides will speed up the output of significant scientific and technological achievements to make greater contributions to the sci-tech self-reliance and self-strengthening at higher levels in the energy field.
