Tang Yong, senior expert and professor-level senior engineer of Xinjiang Research Institute, Huairou Laboratory, has been awarded the Special Prize of the 2023 Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Science and Technology Award.
About the Winner
Dedicated to scientific research in Xinjiang for 35 years, Tang Yong is a key contributor to the discovery of the four significant oil fields in the Junggar Basin. In 2018, he was the first in the world to establish the exploration theory and technical system for conglomerate oil reservoirs in subsag regions, leading to the discovery of the Mahu super-large conglomerate oilfield—the largest of its kind globally to date, with reserves exceeding one billion tons. This accomplishment earned him the first prize for National Science and Technology Progress, solidifying China's leading role in the field of conglomerate rock research.
