Release Time:2024-11-20

The Beijing Science and Technology Conference and Awards Ceremony took place on November 19. Tang Guangfu, Director of Huairou Laboratory was awarded the Zhongguancun Award for Outstanding Contributions. This award is intended to honor scientists who have made significant contributions to key development areas in Beijing.

Tang has long been dedicated to the research and development of key technologies and major equipment in the energy and power sector. Under his leadership, the ±800kV ultra-high voltage direct current (UHVDC) converter valve equipment was developed and applied in over ten UHVDC transmission projects in China, as well as exported for use in two UHVDC projects in Brazil. He also led the development of China's first flexible DC transmission key technology and core equipment, which has been utilized in projects such as those in Shanghai, Xiamen, Yu-E and Zhangbei, and has been exported for application in Germany's offshore wind power grid connection project.

Additionally, he oversaw the development of China's first high-voltage DC circuit breaker equipment, which was applied in the world's first DC power grid project in Zhangbei. Furthermore, he led the development of China's first SVC and thyristor controlled series compensation for power systems, which have been respectively used in the Anshan-Hongqipu No.1 substation and the Yimin-Fengtun TSCC Project.

These research achievements, implemented in Beijing, have established the city as a global leader in power electronics technology for power systems.
