Huairou Laboratory Holding a Basic Research Seminar

  On September 16, 2022, Huairou Laboratory held a basic research seminar and invited more than ten academicians from the Energy and Mining Engineering Division of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, to discuss and evaluate strategic, forward-looking, and basic needs for the future development of the energy field.

  At the seminar, Director of Huairou Laboratory introduced the construction progress of the Laboratory. He also analyzed the problems in China's energy field such as "emphasis on application, inclination to integration, and weak foundation" given that technological research and development of the energy field often featured "long cycle, wide range of disciplines, and many intersections". Faced with the current situation of "a big field but not deep roots" of the energy sector, the academicians brainstormed together and made suggestions for the macro development of the energy sector in the future. They also put forward many basic and cutting-edge directions in the scientific and technological innovations of the energy field. At the same time, it was recommended that Huairou Laboratory should give full play to its location advantages and make use of the large scientific devices and cross-platforms of Huairou Comprehensive National Science Center to provide support for basic scientific research.

  The seminar provided important guidance for the future development of the Laboratory. The Laboratory will organize superior scientific research forces to continuously carry out in-depth cultivation, hence injecting a source of innovation for the sustainable scientific and technological development of the energy sector.
